Description
Quinta de Covela’s first-ever Vinho Verde. Edição Nacional, or National Edition, refers to the Avesso grape, 100% Portuguese and native to Covela’s sub-region. A dynamic, yet elegant Verde positioned alongside the best Alvarinhos and Loureiros. The wine maker is the famous Rui Cunha.
Vines grown on granitic soils in a natural, south-facing amphitheatre on the north bank of the Douro river in the southeastern corner of the Vinho Verde region; The vines are grown organically and have cold winters and hot, dry summers, with a mix of continental climate and maritime influence.
The grapes are selected with care, hand-picked plot-by-plot, allowing for the right grapes to be harvested at the right time. They are transported in small boxes and after crushing, spontaneous fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats. Only light filtration is carried out
The wine is a pale colour with hints of straw. Nose: Intense, yet delicate and complex. Citric fruit (grapefruit), floral, herbal, tree fruit and dried fruit (sweet almonds). Marked minerality and elegance. Palate: Dry, fresh acidity, excellent mouthfeel, elegant and long finish with lovely balanced acidity..
An ideal wine to pair with grilled fish or seafood, and even sushi and sashimi. Its freshness and light-hearted character also make it a great wine to accompany starters or to be enjoyed al fresco as an aperitif in the company of family or friends. A perfect match for many Asian dishes.
