Description

This Verdelho (verdelyoo) is made by Peter Bright an adventurous Australian wine-maker who travelled the Europe making wines and settled in Portugal where he set about modernizing the local wine scene focussing on bringing out the best in local varietals.

The vineyard Boa Vista is just south of Portalegre in the Alto Alentejo some 300m to 600m above sea-level and the Alentejan plain to the south. Its still hot during day, tempered with Atlantic sea breezes, but cool nights allow the grapes some respite and keep that all-important freshness and acidity.

The grapes are harvested very early in the morning, and brought into the winery while still cold. de-stemmed and the partially crushed must is brought down to 4 degrees in a must chiller to preserve the fruit flavours and then undergoes a cold ferment for 2 to 5 weeks and is then rounded out with 3 months on the lees before being bottled.

It has lovely passionfruit, papaya and citrus notes with fresh acidity and would go very well with grilled fish
