Description
Quinta Covela is positioned in the south eastern corner of the Vinho Verde region on the north bank of the Douro river and close to the boundary with the Douro region.
The quinta is uniquely situated in a natural south facing amphitheatre where the climate transitions from lush Atlantic maritime to dry continental. There is lots of sunshine for ripening grapes giving riper fuller flavours. The Covela wines are part of a new ‘Douro verde’ trend with grapes from Vinho Verde region made in a fuller more rounded style.
Avesso Natur is Covela’s first wine to not only be certified as organic but also bottled without the addition of sulphites.
Committed to innovation and sustainability, and to taking the native Avesso grape to new heights of excellence, the Covela winemakers replaced the SO2 normally used for stabilization with dried chestnut blossom picked from chestnut trees on the estate and prepared by hand by their vineyard and cellar teams.
The grapes are carefully selected from their “caseínhos” plot and fermented and aged in old oak barrels until April, followed by racking and bottling without filtration or stabilization, in line with the lunar calendar.
Only 1600 bottles were made. Some cloudiness can be expected.
The wine has a bright citrine colour with hints of straw. Clean, youthful and intense aromas with complex citrus and white flower flavours. The wine is dry with vibrant acidity, balanced structure and a fresh finish.
Pairs wonderfully with a quiche Lorraine, steamed sea bass and grilled white meats.
It is best served ideally in a glass shaped for enjoying Burgundy white wines.
